Based on Paul’s explicit call to the Corinthians and his implicit charge to Timothy and the Thessalonians, the best way to learn to follow Christ is to mimic the practices of a mentor. Pack your toolbox with transferable concepts learned from a trustworthy practitioner. This is a humbling and sobering light to live in. Will my example lead followers in the right direction? Will this behavior or method prove timeless and fruitful in the lives of those who adopt it?
This season in IronWorks we want each man to put 8 tools in his discipleship toolbox. These will be good practices for himself, but will also be transferable to other contexts where he is the mentor. You will be able to confidently say to a child, a spouse, or a friend, “Here’s how I do it; imitate me.”
“A visible example outshines a book of ideas. Come and acquire 8 tools for living that will give you confidence to say: Just imitate me!”
